The continuing crisis in Cambodia obstacles to democratic elections

In the aftermath of the July 1997 coup d'etat in Cambodia, Cambodia's democratic path became a worrisome while fundamental questions were raised around the integrity and credibility of the upcoming elections. Together with the International Republican Institute (IRI), the National Democratic Institute sent a joint mission to the country from October 23 to 28. This second missions led to the issue of this report, whereby the improvement of the political environment was emphasized to ensure the free and fair elections, a genuine competition, and the honor of the election outcomes by all the stakeholders.
